Hour of the Wolf (Sweden, 1968)

If The Seventh Seal wasn’t as grim as I’d remembered it this reinforces Bergman’s gloomy rep. That’s not meant to put anyone off; grim films can be worth watching unless you regard cinema as simply a device for alleviating boredom or neuroses. Always well composed, and the bourgeoisie get a good kicking, the climactic scenes of horror are effective though it’s difficult to care for Borg. (DVD). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063759/
