Night of the Living Dead (USA, 1990)

Interesting remake (scripted by Romero) of the 1968 classic about America in the era of Civil Rights. Interesting as it is clearly conscious of its time and its verdict of America at the beginning of the century’s final decade is no more flattering than the original. Last year’s Land of the Dead suggested that the zombies had more humanity than the capitalists. Although there is a renaissance in political cinema out of Hollywood, these genre pieces still make telling points. (OAR)
