Key films update

I’ve just gotten around to update the key films list which has been languishing at 2005 for a few years. It’s an attempt to list the best films, and most influential films (which may be merely a box office phenomenon), in each year. I haven’t seen them all. Let me know if you think anything should be included (or excluded) and I’ll consider your suggestions.

  1. Inclusions – The Shawshank Redemption, The Apartment, Mulholland Drive
    Exclusion – Titanic

  2. and There Will Be Blood for 2007

  3. Thanks for the suggestions (have added) but you cannot deny that Titanic is a key film even if you hate it!

  4. Also if you’ve put Saving Private Ryan on there, Schindler’s List should be on there too

  5. Explain why ‘Schindler’s List’ should be on. ‘Saving Private Ryan’ is key because of the D Day sequence; that has influenced the shooting of battle scenes.

  6. Schindler’s List is a very important film, Polanski’s the Pianist would not have existed if it wasn’t for Schindler’s List, I may be wrong, but it was the first time a Hollywood film took a very realistic and harsh subject matter like the Holocaust and showed it unflinchingly. Of course it has great cinematography and iconic images.

  7. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs – 1937 (USA)

  8. What about Cronenberg’s remake of The Fly
